What do you do to run faster?
What do you do to run faster? One of my favorite things is start off my daily runs sprinting and then if I come to a hill sprint up it. Sometime I will just sprint between every other telephone pole. I have done steps and speed work but I hate it, which is probably why I am so slow. What do you think?Leave your ideas below.

I have gone from high 10s on
I have gone from high 10s on a 5-6 mile run to low to mid 9s on the same in the past six months.
For me, I split my weekly schedule so that I don't run the same distance every time. My goal is 20+ miles weekly. I usually split that into two 6s and then a short 4-4.5 and a longer run. 7-8. I always push to stay well ahead of my average 6 mile pace when running the short run and give a little pace on the longer. With this method, I have seen great improvement.
FWIW, I also push fasher by lengthening my stride, not by quickening the cadence. This has really helped me with speed, but also once you acclimate to the longer stride, the slower cadence on the longer runs seems to better preserve energy. At least, that is my experience.
Also, I think that it really helps if you have some sort of tool that gives you a reasonably accurate up-to-date pace. I use a garmin 305. It allows me to compete against myself and improve pace.
My suggestion would be to
My suggestion would be to work on lengthening your stride as much as possible. Now I know that sounds kind of dificult but, in reality the concept is pretty easy but, it takes a long time feel comfortable doing it. Start off by concentrating on bringing your knees up higher while running. For me when I started my stride was pretty short and my knees really didn't bend that much at all, and that was about a 36" stride. That was 3 years ago and now I'm up to a 48" stride on average and my mile time went from around a 10 min mile to an 8 min mile. The other thing that I have adjusted over the past 3 years is my running style fro a heel to toe runner to more of a ball of foot runner (heel doesn't touch) which still isn't perfected. I don't fell like I run that much harder energy wise and I feel that if I keep working on my stride length I can get down to a 7 min mile by this time next year.
Remember the key is to get those knees up, the higher you bring them up the longer your stride will be!
Running Faster
If anyone can answer that question it would help me as well. I am a consistant runner, my times change by three or four minutes but usually the same.
I just ran a 5K in 36 minutes and 28 seconds. The time before that is was 32 minutes. I just do not know what I am doing? Any suggestions?
