Livingston County

If it is November it must be Turkey Trot season. So that's where I was today, in Pontiac for the Second Annual Turkey Trot 5K sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club of Livingston County. I don't know how many Turkey Trots I have run in my day but it has been a few, with the best being a 15K years ago in DeKalb.

I like the town of Pontiac, which I've been to many times. It has a nice courthouse and downtown area and it is cool the way the river goes through town. Overall, temperature-wise it was a good day for running for November, with the temperature at about 48 degrees. But, it was gray and overcast, plus windy in spots, so the town didn't shine.
The race went through neighborhoods on the north side of town and I love running through neighborhoods. The course got close to the downtown area, so you could see the courthouse tower during the run. It was an extremely flat course.
I just went out for a slow, easy run. However my time ended up at 27:50, slower than I thought it would be. I didn't have a great race but I thought the time would be better. I have got to get my speed up.
According to the popsicle stick I was handed when I finished, I came in 24th. There were probably 50 or so runners overall, plus walkers for a 3K walk.
There was a biscuits and gravy breakfast following the race, but I didn't participate, having to get back to Springfield. The pre-race facilities could have been a little better but overall this was fine.
Livingston County is the 67th county I have run a race in, as I seek to run a race in all 102 Illinois counties. This should be my last race of the year but I hope to do a lot of running over the winter and come back strong next year.
