Race results - Unlimited Performance 5K (my first)
Thanks to everyone who was 'rooting for me' to finish my first ever 5K this past Saturday morning.
I did finish, with minimal walking. I crossed the finish line at 36 minutes flat. Not a fast time by any means, but I thought pretty respectable for my first time out. I am considering doing the 10K associated with Pumpkin Fest in Sycamore in late October. Any thoughts on training up to that distance?
Thanks!

congratulations
Just keep running consistently. When you feel good, run little more. When you don't feel good, try to at least run a minimum distance. Four is my minimum on bad days, seven and a half is my normal route and 10 when I am feeling real good. As the weather cools off in September, really start working on increasing your distance. You don't have to run a 10K before the actual race, just get close. If you are doing five miles fairly consistently, race day adreneline and the other runners will get you over the hump for a 10k.

Good job. I'm also hoping to run Pumpkin Fest for the first time this fall. It would be nice to train on the course, but Somonauk and Baseline are tough streets to run down. In addition to all the awesome content on this site, you shoul check out nitroruns.com. It is a running club in the DeKalb/Sycamore area. They, I'm sure, have plenty of experience with this race and can also help.
Keep up the good work, you are motivating me to get back out and hit the pavement!
