The 5k race, hosted by the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority, will be in honor of Nelson. E. Hopkins Junior. All money raised will be donated to the scholarship fund in his name. The scholarship fund was founded after Nelson was a victim of a drive by shooting near Rockhurst University in the fall of 2009. The fund will help to provide annual scholarships to students at the Alta Vista Charter School in Kansas City, MO.
