Christian County

There were a lot of good races to choose from today to run in. Leading the pack would have been the Steamboat Classic 15K in Peoria County and the ERFAE Duckfest 5K in Richland County. There were other good races as well. However, I didn't think I'd be running at all today due to a kid's early baseball game. So, when that got rained out, I went close to home and ran in the Stonington Summerfest 5K run and walk.
It was hot and humid and the race went into the country where there was no shade. They did well with water stops though. Stonington, in Christian County, is not a big town and even though the proceeds went to fund the Taylorville Track program, the turnout was impressive, with more than 150 participants, most of who ran.
The course was extremely flat and I felt I ran it well. My final time was 26:06.
I hope to do the Lincoln-Douglas 8 mile in Metamora, Woodford County, next week-end. Chrisitan County has only three races that I know of, all 5Ks, so I don't feel bad about running a 5K today to knock out a new county. Still, I am looking forward to a race with a little more distance. I've now done three 5Ks in a row and that is too much with the short races.
This was the 33rd county I've run in in Illinois and the 6th new one this year.
